BrentErickson#9  An interview with team captain Brent Erickson DL Denver Gamblers...

GFFL:  Now that you have accomplished another milestone and become AFAL National Champions, what other goals do yo have planned for 2010?
Brent Erickson - Continue to improve as a team and as individuals.  We have made new player additions to our team over the past year and we are still learning how to blend these new talents into our system.  We are also considering other National tournaments on the east coast in the late spring time-frame.
GFFL: What has lead to the Gamblers current success in winning back to back GFFL championships, a Touch of Class tournament championship, and an AFAL National Championship?
Brent Erickson - Dedication to practice and to our overall mission, teamwork, and talent.

GFFL: How do you feel about your own personal performance during the AFAL National championship?
Brent Erickson- Satisfied but there is always room for improvement.  Much more proud of how the team acclimated to adversity and supported each other.

GFFL: If you had to choose an MVP for the AFAL National championship who would it be? Why?
Brent Erickson- Too many great performances to pick one MVP.  Some that come to mind are; Tony Lindsay who was unstoppable and moved the offense throughout the tournament.  He and his brother Gabe scored the winning TD in OT in the championship vs. San Diego Xpress.  Thal Woods had two punt returns for TD's, a few long TD receptions on offense, and played lockdown Corner.  The blocking backs, Dazen and KB, were physical and fast.  Tommy Beal, Junior Polk, Juju Hampton and all of the WR's made amazing clutch catches and blocked down field all day.  Courtney Hysaw, Scott Ohara, Ryan Ross, and Billy Hurley led a dominnant rush while Peanut Swift, Rick Ross, and Willis Marshall made numerous big plays in the secondary.  We even had some big clutch plays from a couple of new players Mario Lopez and Deuce Richardson.  The offense scored an average of 19 points per game while the defense held the opponents to an average of 6 points per game.

GFFL: How does it feel now to be back on top of flag football not only in Colorado but Nationally?
Brent Erickson - It is a good feeling, especially with the changes that have been made over the last year, but our team knows we have much more we want to accomplish.

Brent Erickson
- We want to thank the Gambler Family especially Irv Mathews and Herman White for coming out to Las Vegas and supporting us, their words and support on the sideline were much needed.  We also want to thank Mike Watson and Jerome Lanier for the amazing dedication that they gave the Gambler Team for 25 years.  We hope to continue and build on the success they have established for so long.
